Local Map Finder | PR Newswire | Wego partners with Thailand’s Tourism Authority to increase MENA tourism. | DUBAI, UAE — Wego, the most popular online travel marketplace in the Middle East and North Africa (MENA), has formed a partnership with the Tourism Authority of Thailand (TAT) to extend an invitation to tourists from the MENA region to experience Thailand in a way that deviates from the traditional tourist model.
The “Visit Thailand Year 2022” campaign was initiated in Thailand with the goal of reviving the country’s tourism industry. The campaign will promote the plethora of tourist products and services in Thailand that will fulfill all of your travel wishes under the banner of the topic “Amazing New Chapters.” This is due to the fact that Thailand possesses all aspects of travel, from A to Z.
The country is consistently rated as one of the top ten destinations for visitors from GCC countries. It will be marketed across all of Wego’s marketing platforms in order to attract more tourists to the country and raise knowledge about the new activities and attractions that are available in the country after COVID-19.
Mr. Chaiwat Tamtai Director of the Tourism Authority of Thailand for Dubai and the Middle East commented: “One of the key travel trends for 2022 is workcation. As a result of this trend, Wego saw a spike in the number of searches on holiday homes 136%, hotel apartments 92% and apartments by 69% in Q1 2022 in comparison to the same period last year. And to make the country travel-friendly for workcations & remote jobs, Thailand is planning to launch a long-term resident visa for retirees, working professionals, specialists, and wealthy foreigners.”
When compared to the same time period in 2021, the percentage of people searching for Thailand in Saudi Arabia increased by 56 percent between January and June of 2022. Saudi Arabia was followed by Kuwait, which saw an increase of 15 percent, the United Arab Emirates, which saw a 12 percent increase, and Bahrain, which saw a 7 percent increase. People traveling alone make up 48 percent of those looking for vacations in Thailand, followed by couples making up 27 percent and families making up 24 percent of the total.
Mamoun Hmedan, Chief Commercial Officer and Managing Director, Middle East, North Africa (MENA) and India of Wego, said: “We recorded over 193 % increase in the number of searches from MENA to Thailand in the last two months in comparison Feb and March 2022. Thailand ranks in the top 10 destinations for GCC travelers in 2022. We’re thrilled to partner with TAT once again to cater to the growing travel demand from the MENA region.”
The campaign also places an emphasis on instilling the idea of responsible travel, which includes enjoying the highest forms of luxury without damaging nature, traditional food, local populations, or flora, wildlife, or any other aspect of the environment.
In an effort to make Thailand a more welcoming destination for tourists, the government has decided not to implement a new set of regulations for visitors who have or have not received vaccinations beginning on June 1, 2022. Visitors to Thailand who are at least 18 years old and have not received all of their vaccinations must wait at least 14 days before flying there. When traveling without their parents, tourists between the ages of 5 and 17 years old are required to have the initial dosage of the vaccination.
