LocalMapFinder | Trip.com Group aims to inspire 100 million travelers to travel sustainably | SINGAPORE /PRNewswire/ — Trip.com Group, a leading global travel service provider, recently announced its long-term goal to build green tourism. This goal will cover three key areas, including working with partners to launch more than 10,000 low-carbon travel products; promoting sustainable travel concepts and engaging 100 million travelers in low-carbon practices; and aiming to further reduce carbon emissions across its own operations.
Launching 10,000 low-carbon travel products
In the long-term plan for the Trip.com Group, various initiatives are already under way, and the group’s goal is to produce more than 10,000 environmentally friendly travel items. Trip.com and Skyscanner, which are both sub-brands of Trip.com Group, have partnered with CHOOOSE, a company that is dedicated to offsetting the CO2 emissions for flights. CHOOOSE does this by supporting impactful climate solutions worldwide and enabling customers to seamlessly address their CO2 emissions as part of the customer experience. This carbon offsetting option is currently available for purchase on practically all of Trip.com’s flight inventory, and it is available to users from over 35 different Trip.com sites.
Ctrip, a sub-brand of the Trip.com Group, has been working with many suppliers to offer a wide selection of eco-friendly travel items in mainland China. Some examples of these products are zero waste camping and eco hiking. Recently, a campaign to promote “Green Hotels” and “Green Flights” in mainland China was carried out by Trip.Biz, a business travel brand owned by the Group. In addition, the corporate travel brand received a Silver grade from EcoVadis in 2022, which is a platform that is recognized internationally for its work in the area of corporate social responsibility (CSR). As part of its automobile rental business, Ctrip promotes the use of vehicles that run on alternative fuels and, as a result of this marketing, the company has seen the number of relevant orders increase by around 140 percent per year. When compared with traditional vehicles, the use of alternative fuel vehicles for hire will result in approximately 10,000 tons less carbon emissions in the year 2022, as indicated by the most recent order evaluation.
Promoting sustainability awareness and inspiring 100 million travellers
As part of the Group’s long-term commitment to improving sustainability awareness, the consumer brand Trip.com surveyed its customers to learn more about user sentiment towards sustainable travel and how the pandemic has impacted consumer opinion. This was done in order to learn more about user sentiment towards sustainable travel and how the pandemic has impacted consumer opinion. Importantly, the results of the poll showed that the majority of respondents consider environmentally responsible travel to be very important.
Trip.com Group is continuously expanding upon its content marketing strategy in order to raise awareness of more environmentally friendly alternatives. Users are encouraged to evaluate, recommend, and share their travel content on Trip.com’s Trip Moments platform, which is the home of user-generated traveller content. This platform is used by over two million travelers across the world. Trip.com South Korea organized a number of different events and activities in the lead-up to World Environment Day 2022 in order to raise user awareness and urge users to think more responsibly and share material on Trip Moments using the hashtag’sustainable travel.’
Ctrip is utilizing its in-house produced variety show to spread awareness about eco-friendly travel options as part of its efforts to promote sustainable tourism. The green travel variety program is a cooperation between Ctrip and National Geographic. The show features environmental experts and travel professionals who accompany distinguished guests as they investigate sustainable lifestyles while discovering the natural beauty of China’s cities and countryside. It is the first vacation variety show in China that focuses on raising environmental consciousness.
Reducing carbon emissions across operations
Trip.com Group, a one-stop travel service provider with more than 30,000 workers and businesses located all over the world, continues to place a high priority on business procedures that are protective of the natural environment. The Group is committed, in the not-too-distant future, to further cutting carbon emissions across all of its own operations.
In order to lessen its impact on the environment and cut down on energy usage, the Group has implemented a number of environmentally friendly initiatives, such as installing solar hot water systems, intelligent energy management systems, and renewable heating systems. The Leadership in Energy and Environmental Design (LEED) organization has granted the LEED Gold accreditation to the company’s headquarters in Shanghai. This renovation resulted in a reduction of between 45 and 50 percent in the amount of energy that was used for lighting the buildings. The latest round of energy-saving investments that were made in the Trip.com Group Shanghai headquarters offices took place from 2019 to 2021.
The Trip.com Group made a public commitment in 2021 to work toward a more environmentally and socially responsible future by announcing its intention to form an ESG Committee and join the United Nations Global Compact.
Jane Sun, Trip.com Group CEO commented, “We have always adhered to the vision of ‘pursuing the perfect trip for a better world ‘ and will work with our users and partners to further reduce carbon emissions in a more holistic and systematic manner. We still have a long way to go and much more to do.”
